Gallbladder Gone!

I feel like everytime I write a new blog entry it begins the same way: it has been so long since I last posted anything . . . So, I will not start this one in that way.

The title says it all, my gallbladder is gone. Yup, that's right, it has been removed. The story of how it all came together is pretty crazy and made out for a very interesting Christmas holiday.

Three weeks after Sydney was born, I started having these extremely painful "stomach aches". I went into the doctor who thought that maybe I was just having IBS issues and we should wait until I get another attack to do an ultrasound to check for gallstones. I told her that I didn't want to wait for another attack, and she went ahead and ordered the ultrasound that day. Sure enough, I was full of gallstones. The next two weeks were a bit of a whirlwind full of doctor appointments, gallbladder attacks and the constant mental anguish of waiting for the next attack (they are EXTREMELY painful!!!). At exactly five weeks after I had a C-section for Sydney's birth, I was under the knife again to have my horrible gallbladder removed. The surgery was two days before Christmas. It went better than anticipated and I was home that same day within a few hours of the surgery. Other than the expected pain from surgery, my holiday went pretty well and I was grateful to be done with the gallbladder attacks. Recovery was a breeze compared to being sliced open for a C-section.

I am happy to say that I am feeling so much better now and am slowly gaining energy back. I still find myself tired most days but attribute that to getting used to life with two kids. Someday, I will catch up, someday.
