Running . . . with MUCH less hair

Running . . .

After the birth of Sydney, I vowed to continue to stay healthy and lose weight as I did in pregnancy. (The weight loss in pregnancy was attributed to the strict diet I kept due to gestational diabetes). Of course, that didn't last very long and I fell back into my old eating habits. On top of that, I have had several medical issues along the way that have posed a bit of a stumbling block. None the less, I decided in January, that despite falling back into my old eating habits, I needed to be physically active. So, I decided to start a running regimen. Now, for those of you that know me well, you know that I have ALWAYS hated to run. I just don't see a point in it. However, I knew that it was the best way for me to build up my endurance and overall physical health. I found an app on my iPhone that leads you through training your body to run from the couch to 30 minutes in 9 weeks. Nine weeks, that seems doable, right? I started the nine weeks in mid January and got to week 4 before I had to take a short hiatus do to a few medical issues and pain. I am happy to announce that I have been back on it now for a week and am just so proud of myself. Tonight I ran two 8 minute intervals, which may not seem like much to you athletes out there, but it is a lot for someone who NEVER runs. On Friday, I am scheduled to run for 20 minutes straight. Seems a bit daunting, but I think that I can do it. In four weeks from today I should be running 30 minutes straight. I am looking forward to that day and looking forward to being in better physical health. Now if I could only teach myself to eat better, I am sure that I would lose some more weight :). My plan is to keep you posted on my running ventures basically to hold myself accountable. Wish me luck!

. . . with MUCH less hair

Lately, I have been losing a bunch of hair. And I mean a BUNCH. It is coming out in handfuls. I guess after pregnancy and two major surgeries (C-section and gallbladder), my body has finally decided to let that hair go. Honestly, I have plenty of hair to spare so I am not too concerned about going bald - just yet. However, the loss of so much hair is causing a bit of a problem in my daily life. My hairbrush is sadly overwhelmed, the shower has to be cleaned out daily and my poor vacuum is being put through a lot of abuse. HAIR IS EVERYWHERE!!
What does this all mean - time to cut my hair, short. I called up my friend Shana (the only person I trust with my crazy wavy hair) and asked if she could cut it. Of course, she said yes and we headed up to her place on Tuesday to say goodbye to my sorry locks. (and, as a bonus, she finally got to meet Sydney). We had a wonderful time catching up.
Here is a pic of my new haircut. It's not a very good picture, but trust me, it's a cute cut!! I love it and the shower, hairbrush, vacuum, and my husband (who would find my hair everywhere) are already thanking me.

Spring

This last week we had a little peek of spring weather. Since it was so beautiful, we just had to get outside. Maya played golf on the front lawn and picked flowers while Sydney and I sat on the porch soaking up some rays. The warmth of the sun felt so good. *sigh* I miss the sun.

I took a few pics of the girls with my phone while we were enjoying the short lived sunny weather.

Recent Pics of the Girls

Here are a few recent pictures of the girls. I just love that I now have two little girls. Sisters are such a special thing.

Maya Says . . .

The other day, David was walking past the bathroom and heard some singing. He stopped and peeked in to find Maya singing away while sitting on the toilet (she does that often). Startled, Maya says,
"Oh, hey Daddy! Did you like my song? I was singing a song about Mommy losing all her hair."
I so wish David had remembered the words to her song. She is currently fascinated with the fact that my hair comes out in handfuls right now. Another lovely post pregnancy side effect.

More Maya Says . . .

My dear friend, Natalie, told me years ago to keep a journal of all the funny things that Maya says over the years. Did I do it? Nope. I let time get away from me, and in doing so, have forgotten a lot of the funny sayings over the years. However, as I thought might happen, others would remember some crazy things that Maya has said and remind me of them. Here are a few more thanks to the memory of my sis-in-law, Vanessa.

Asking Maya one day: "Who do we pray to?" Her response: "Michael Jordan." We still have no idea why in the world she said that. I think she was trying to be funny.

Another time, Maya was arguing with me in the car (being the independent, outspoken 4 year old that she is) and I told her that she can just be so stubborn sometimes. She asked me what the word stubborn meant. As I was explaining it to her, she abruptly interrupts me and says, "You keep using these big words that are confusing me. I don't want to talk about it anymore. This conversation is over." (I have a feeling that the last line is something I have said a time or two ;)).

Maya Says . . .

Our oldest daughter, Maya, began talking at a very young age. I think her first words began flying out of her mouth around 7 months of age. By the time she turned one she was speaking in sentences and giving us a run for our money. Her vocabulary has always astonished me and the questions, ideas, and statements that come out of the girl's mouth never cease to amaze me and, at times, send me to the floor rolling with laughter. Because of this, I have decided to create a page on this blog called Maya Says . . .
The plan is to update this portion of my blog on a weekly, if not daily basis. I hope you enjoy the things that Maya says as much as we have and do.

Here are a few things that Maya has said in the past and more recent that have had us laughing:

"When I grow up and have a boyfriend, I am going to name him Nick."

"Super heroes wear big underwear!" (because they have to wear their underwear on the outside of their clothes)

This one needs a bit of an intro. Maya volunteered to pray over our dinner the other night. Here is a portion of that prayer:
". . . and thank you God for our salad dinner, except for the chicken, because I don't like that part. But thank you so much for the bacon in the salad. I just love it so much. Bacon is my favorite . . ."

David was talking the other day about needing to travel to Bellingham for work (it is in northern Washington near the Canadian border). Maya's response was hilarious:
"Bellingham?!? Jesus was born in Bellingham!"

It's a New Look

So, nothing really new here . . . just my blog looking entirely different!!
I just decided this evening that I was tired of the way my blog looked and needed to make some changes. Changes that better reflect my personality and the things I love. Really, I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to do it. The last look of my blog was pretty awful. I truly apologize for all of you who had to ignore the hideous look of the blog to learn about how my family was doing :).
Enjoy the new look!
